FROM KERBSIDE TO COMPOST - NEW GREEN WASTE RECYCLING VENTURE FOR WOODFIELD'S
Woodfield's have begun working with Warwickshire County Council and Envar (a waste management and recycling company who are experts in the field of organic waste treatment) to compost kerbside-collected green waste in the north of the county.
The one year contract will see the green garden waste from North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth and from Grendon Household Waste Recycling Centre processed by Envar in partnership with Woodfield's to produce 10,000 tonnes of high-grade quality compost that will eventually be certified to PAS100 Standards and the Compost Quality Protocol - a British quality standard which recognises composted products that are consistent, safe, high performance and have been produced to a strict set of analytical values.
The compost will be used primarily as an agricultural fertiliser. Woodfield's, who farm approximately 500 acres of land, will enhance their already strong commitment to the environment by utilising the compost on their own farmland thus reducing the need for artificial fertilisers and improving water holding capacity and root formation whilst helping to combat soil erosion and nitrogen runoff.
Bagged compost will also be available for sale and delivery under Woodfield's own brand.
Andrew Urquhart, Development Director for Envar said, "We are delighted to be working closely with Warwickshire County Council and Woodfield's - we feel that this unique partnership will satisfy the county council's goals of increased recycling and beneficial use of waste material."
Arthur Woodfield, Managing Director of Woodfield's Recycling, said: "Solid partnership is the way we can grow our established business and we are looking forward to working on other similar projects with Envar and Warwickshire County Council in the future." |

WOODFIELD'S TOPSOIL USED IN TV MAKEOVER FOR LEAMINGTON SPA GARDEN
A local landscaping firm has come to the rescue after cowboy builders left a garden in Leamington Spa not fit for purpose.
The garden makeover, carried out by Isola Garden Design, was filmed for the second series of BBC One's "Cowboy Trap", presented by Clive Holland.
"Cowboy Trap" highlights the problems homeowners can have when dealing with cowboy builders, and uses competent tradesmen to finish the job properly.
Commenting on the makeover, Isola's Managing Partner James Brash said, "The garden was in a state - the decking was unsafe to walk on, the fencing had been left unfinished and the lawn was a dumping ground with rubble everywhere. But, with lots of hard work and some quality landscaping supplies, we transformed the garden into a child-friendly, useable space for all the family."
Fillongley based firm Woodfield's supplied the topsoil for the job. Managing Director Arthur Woodfield said, "We're proud of our products and it's great to see them in use on national television! Our aim is to make sure the effort customers put in to their outside space is worthwhile by providing quality products they can rely on."
He added, "The results, which will be broadcast this spring, show how much a well designed and maintained garden can make a difference not just to the homeowner but also to other local residents." |

GET CREATIVE IN THE GARDEN WITH LAWN ART!
Next time you need to mow the lawn, why not make a change from going up and down and get creative with a bit of lawn art - a great way to make an unusual feature in your garden!
You'll need an area of grass, a mower with a roller or adjustable height blades to create a striped effect and bit of imagination! You can try mowing in circles, creating a symmetrical pattern or an intricate maze effect - search for "lawn art" online to get some more ideas. The best part is that it grows out if you get it wrong!
Lawn art makes an interesting focal point from an upstairs window, and is a great way for kids to explore the garden. You'll also get plenty of exercise creating it!
And if in your garden "cutting the grass" is more like "cutting the tops off the weeds", why not invest in a new lawn? Woodfield's supply a range of budget and premium turf and topsoil to make a real feature of your outside space.
WHAT'S IN A MULCH?
A mulch is any type of product that can be spread on the ground, either inorganic (such as gravel and slate, or even rubber and glass chips) or organic (including bark, wood chips and manure).
Mulch has lots or practical and decorative applications and is a great way to spruce up your garden, from revitalising your beds and borders to providing a safe surface for children to play on.
The main principle of a mulch is to suppress weed growth and conserve soil moisture. Bark mulches have to be laid thickly - about 10cm - to feel the benefits (1 cubic metre of mulch will cover approximately 10m² when spread at this depth). A layer of bark mulch should last over a year, and as it decomposes it will enrich the soil with organic matter.
Inorganic mulches last longer but don't enrich the soil. They can give a more formal or decorative finish.
Woodfield's supply a range of bark mulches, playbark and decorative gravels to suit all applications in your garden.
